Great list, Jeremy; thanks so much.
Folks, please be advised that Google maps, at least for the areas listed, are sometimes wildly inaccurate as to matching a listed street address with the actual physical location.

My experience backs up your thought, ljp93105; in the six adjacent properties in our part of Conejo, the three surviving properties all were re-roofed in the past 5 years. A similar event occurred on the very top of Las Alturas and Las Alturas Circle, as two older houses were lost amid other untouched properties.
Fire safe landscaping also seems to be a big factor. And luck.
Finally, some Fire-Fighting experts were directly responsible for saving our property in particular, as their efforts were clearly visible throughout.

Although I complied this list from the oddly-formatted and reader-unfriendly releases provided by the City and County, I wonder if the addresses marked "Conejo," specifically 17, 20, 28, and 50 are not truly addresses from Conejo LANE, more toward the bottom of Conejo Road near Stanwood, where the bulk of the destruction occurred.
When I walked by the addresses at the top of Conejo yesterday (November 14) there was very little fire damage if any in the upper Conejo area (closest to Las Alturas) which would be numbers akin to the release.
Not sure, as I haven't seen the area in 24 hours, but it is puzzling.

Two classes of caution issued by County EOC (which, in the harmonious spirit of our time is now flacking as the "Joint Information Center"):
* Evacuation WARNINGS (which are lifted)
* MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDERS (still in place).

I'm sure Ty is joking, but for any visitors, Alameda Padre Serra is also known as APS.

I can say the area around upper Conejo, Las Alturas, and Mission Ridge was attacked in a spotty fashion. I was there about 1:00 to 1:30pm today.
My neighbors to the NE and S (upper Conejo just below Camino Alto) all three burned to the ground, our house is intact (shout out to our beloved firefighters), and my two neighbors below me -- closest to the fire -- both escaped without structure damage.
I passed a neighbor from Camino Alto, and he described a similar patchy attack.
Orizaba structures are most intact, spot fire damage around but nothing substantial. Stanwood down to Sycamore Canyon is destroyed, with most houses gone. Looking across the canyon toward Mountain Drive is virtually bare of vegetation, with a number of house under duress.
Two houses across from one another at the very top of the Riviera, Las Alturas and Las Alturas Circle, are burned out. The surroundings are pristine. One other home on Las Alturas Circle also was destroyed (near #26, from the Google Street view).

We've probably let this tit-for-tat run a bit long; my apologies if that is so.
We have two entrenched positions on exhibit here, but I would prefer we get back to policy debate rather than nit-picking and on-line raspberries.
You all can do better -- please.

Although we have a high tolerance for "free speech," unsupported claims and rantings which reveal more hatred than thought are unwelcome. Belligerence is not an argument, and volume and repetition do not make points.
Our comment forums will be enhanced by putting a little thought and research into positions, rather than reflexively spitting out opinions. (Although In general we allow great latitude there as well.)
I still believe our Discussion Guidelines ably define our limits in what is obviously a subjective process:

I looked up there this morning, and didn't see damage to the houses, but all of those folks have quite a bit of property, so some aspects may be effected; remember the list is "significant structural damage or total destruction."
The list is not complied by us (The Independent), rather by the County and City, and subject to revision.
