AShaw probably wasn't there - this was a discussion session open to the public, with university researchers sharing their knowledge. Students, faculty and community members smart enough to turn off the tube, go listen and ask questions would have learned more here than from weeks of watching corporate media.

On How to Pick a President

Dems. and Repubs. teamed up in an unholy alliance to spend $700 billion of our dollars, to borrow money and buy bad debt that the corporations that caused it now won't touch. More than 95% of the callers to the House and Senate opposed the bailout bills, overwhelming switchboards and crashing their websites, yet the politicians in both houses voted for the bailout. These include Capps, Boxer, Feinstein, McCain, Obama and Biden. Where is the "loyal opposition"? Bless these brave protestors! The mere fact that this is a Bush proposal should have sent this expensive yet likely ineffective scam down to defeat, but now we and our children are stuck with it.

This Public Hearing is incredibly important, because MASSIVE CHANGES are coming to the campus, including major bikeway alterations such as ELIMINATION of the Pardall bikepath tunnel, through which thousands of pedestrians and bicyclists pass safely under Ocean Road every day.

It may be the last meeting for the general public to comment about UCSB Vision 2025 - the University's Long Range Development Plan. Comments may be made in person at the hearing or submitted in writing. Written comments must be received by 5:00 p.m. PST, June 23rd, 2008.

Submit written comments to:
University of California, Office of Campus Planning & Design
c/o UCSB Vision 2025,
Santa Barbara, CA 93106-1030.
E-mail to: info@UCSBVision2025.com

Following the local public hearing, the documents will proceed to the California Coastal Commission and the UC Board of Regents for review and adoption.

Mission Street under the 101 is horrible for bicyclists and these improvements will come too late for this unfortunate rider. Get busy, Santa Barbara!

Bike riders should instead use the much safer West Anapamu, West Micheltorena, or West Junipero Street bridges.

On City to Improve Mission Street Bike Lane

Mission Street under the 101 is horrible for bicyclists. Improvements were approved in Feb.08, so get busy, Santa Barbara!

Until then, riders should use the much safer West Anapamu, West Micheltorena, or West Junipero Street bridges.

This is one more sad symptom of the drain on federal resources attributable to the occupation of Iraq. Education cutbacks, economic recession, California National Guard not available to protect this nation, healthcare shortages for returning veterans, and now ocean safety buoys decommissioned: all resulting from sending $3 billion a week out of the country to fund Bush-Cheney's boondoggle.
