Remember when, think it was the 80's, all of a sudden a whole bunch of married men with children started coming out of the closet; and the people who knew them, when being interviewed, would make comments like "I never would have suspected, he was such a wonderful father/husband" Like the fact that he admitted he was gay suddenly erased who he was as a person.

If you ask me, thinking like that isn't going to change because those people WANT to believe being gay is a choice (god wouldn't make anything so "'defective", would he?) And as long as we have people like Sarah Palin and the rest of the GOP and bible belt preachers telling simple minded people that it's their right to tell others how they can live their lives, it will be a cold day in hell before it does change. The "good ol' boys and their women who do what they're told just keep breeding and continue that back woods thinking.

We haven't really come very far since the time when the US military was doing experiments on black service men who'd contracted syphillus to see what the difference was in how it killed them compared to how it killed white people. Because even though they had the exact same physiology as whites, they weren't REALLY people. Same thinking still applies, it's just focused on the gays now.

bsgraves----the founding fathers were also slave owners so does that make slavery alright in your mind??? After all, the founding fathers did it so that must make it right.

That was a trip down memory lane. There have been many a day when I've thought about all those places and what good times were had at them.

He'll probably be taken under the wing of another incarcerated gang member and either continue being released and returned to prison for the rest of his life or end up being killed. (either in or out of prison)
Maybe the parents of gang affiliated children should start being held more responsible for the actions of their children. It doesn't speak well of their home life if they feel the need to join a gang to feel like they have a family.
Why aren't social services more involved with trying to help families keep children out of gangs? Yeah, I know, there's no funding for something of that magnitude; but wouldn't the money that's being spent prosecuting these kids after something has happened be better spent trying to avoid situations like this? Why not put effort into trying to identify gang members and then working out a way to make their home life more appealing than gang membership.

Is it just me or is anyone else disturbed by the fact that these kids seem to be almost amused by the fact that they took someone's life?

The vast majority of people in IV are just passing thru while they're getting educated and basically don't give a rat's because it's not their home. To them it's not much more than a hotel room and the maids will come in and clean up after they leave.

But what do you propose they should do with all the surplus animals that would be left over? Farmers aren't going to just turn them out into the fields when those fields would be needed for new crops and I'm sure the govt. won't let them be set free on govt. land as new wildlife. That would leave them facing the only alternative there is for unwanted animals, euthenasia.
Why not make it so any person wanting to eat meat should have to go to the farm, pick out the animal they want, then assist in the slaughter and butchering of that animal. That would make more of an impact regarding what is involved in getting meat to their table.
I grew up on a cattle ranch so I speak from experience.

If I ever got to the point where I didn't recognize my own family, I would hope my husband would do the same for me.

I agree that gun control doesn't work, the only people who seem to have guns are the criminals. There have been surveys done in jails and prisons with inmates convicted of violent crimes and the vast majority of the inmates said that if their victims had had a gun of their own, they wouldn't have commited the crime.
Makes you wonder why the politicians are so gung ho to continue to take away even more rights of the average citizen.
