Pray it gets cancelled.
I am all for getting good solid paying production work into SB.
But reality TV "bites".

We live on Fig. and I love havin this place on our street.Fig. has a whole string of great little culinary nuggets of goodness.
How come we keep losing our best little eateries? Is there any way to have a quality cafe and make a profit in SB? This place was jammin and it still couldn't make it.
I do not get it.
I will miss this sweet spot in downtown SB.

I am the mother of a student at SBJH with an IEP.
My child has had "support" since he was in first grade.
The very first rule of getting support is asking for it.
Lots of parents do not want to admit that their child or they themselves need help. A couple of years ago I had a conversation with a friend and politely suggested her child might have a "gentle" form of autism and that she should ask for the IEP testing.
She did not even know what it was or how to ask.
What is most important is TO ASK.
Ask and bug the school board, school counselor,principle,teachers...anyone who will listen.
My son has almost straight A's this year and this is a direct result of his IEP and the dedicated teachers and staff in Santa Barbara.
I would like to give them all my heart felt thanks.
Not everyone is responsive or supportive of IEP's.
Individual Education Plans help not only the student but the parents and the educators do their job.
Keep your eye on the prize.
Children are "equal opportunity" sponges, hungry for education and guidance.

QUOTE:
"a part time secretary to administer the program and the extra money that the program costs to run (after tuitions), and that it could be done for somewhere in the neighborhood of $10,000. This is where we are now. "
Like maybe ...a couple of the Moms and Dads could get together as a "hub" to administrate and $10,000.00 would do it?
The time frame for the admin...6 weeks around the camp...how many hours..or maybe 4 hours a week all year...what do you need?
Does Boxtales have a volunteer coordinator?
UCSB and City College do community service hours and credit for apprenticeships?
I sent a copy of this blog to several folks.
Let me see what I can come up with, wrangle, sweet talk, promise precious gifts for...etc...
Thank you for all your spirit!

The sober community is strong , like a tight lanyard.
This sounds like someone on the fringe and not in the "sober" center. I wish to extend heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family of the man who lost his life.
The sober living homes offer so much to men and women starting over clean and sober. I would hate anything to get in the way of their good work and their huge contribution to the community.
So sad to hear something this tragic.
Teach peace.

It would be nice if someone in the city Government could figure out how small "hometown" business could survive the slew of BIGS taking over SB.
I don't know anybody's name anymore...and I don't care to know the names of the snotty 20 year old working in the BIG retailers who could give a @#$ that I am there.
What about some local "non-profit" merchants.
Santa Barbara is becoming anti-local.
We bought a few movies at the Schmid..."HEY who got the copy of "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" ??????
I really wanted that....probably the same person that got "WATER".......
Thanks for the memories..

It all spends.

Question: If convicted.
Can the victims in a Civil Action, sue the students responsible for damages?
Including all medical claims by folks who have been experiencing upper respiratory damage, infection, mental anguish and the general expenses of the evac?
Could we file a citywide Class Action Civil Suit?
My point is that this fire, in particular is very personal and very morbid.
After all we went through as a community with the Zaca and Gap fires, has the level of awareness gone up?
On Thursday at 7pm on the 13th (the night of the fire)...a woman was going into the Vons on Victoria. She was smoking a cigarette. She dropped the cigarette as she continued up the drive into the store. The cigarette butt rolled downhill and bumped into the curb and flew into the air. It bounced and then landed in the planted side of the curb and onto a pile of dry leaves.
I ran to the planter and stomped out the cigarette butt.
Are people learning from the fires?
Is there any value in these experiences if people do not become more aware of their physical surroundings?

I have lost a brother to suicide.
It is a difficult issue and one not easily bourn by the family involved.
Politics aside.
A family has lost a child, a brother or father.
The politics around this seem to about numbers and not suicide prevention.
One thing I know from my own experience is that once a human decides to end their life it is usually because they can find no joy in life.
The rest is just geography.
I am heartfully sorry for this families loss.
