"... Californians generally have favored environmental protection over expanded oil development ..."
Does it really have to be framed in an either/or choice?
With our current knowledge and technology are we not capable of extracting the oil that our economy presently requires (while we develop new energy sources for the future) without damaging the environment???

If the taxis are being ticketed for parking or stopping at red curbs, maybe they should point the cops toward Chapala and Figueroa where the MTD busses park at the red curbs for hours and hours every day.
No one seems to mind large busses parked on red (perhaps because they belong to a government agency?) but apparently they get all worked up about smaller taxis parking on red (maybe because they are simply private working stiffs?)...

Doesn't the Montecito Country Club, which is actually in Santa Barbara city limits, already get it's water from Santa Barbara?

"... denied to review..."
Do you mean "declined to review" or "refused to review?"
Isn't correct grammar important to convey the correct meaning when you are in the word business (i.e. news reporting)?

Doesn't De La Vina Street follow the route of old Highway 101? ...and the intersection in question came about when State Street was finally put through to connect with it (State used to stop at Constance)?
If so, the intersection probably didn't have as much traffic back then so it wasn't the problem it has become today.

In this article, Mr. Palladini was quoted as saying, "“You have to consider the fact that they were two different projects,” said Palladini, pointing out the City Council agreed the Coast Village Road project height might be excessive and block views. He compared that to the Miramar, where in exchange for the underground parking, the height variance is a reasonable tradeoff."
Note that the Coast Village Road project also was a tradeoff to get underground parking. And the height was still well under the limit allowed by law.
That fact seems to be missing here...
