J'Amy Brown is The Independent's Montecito columnist. She joined the newspaper in 2006, shortly after retiring as president of the Montecito Association.

Brown is a native Californian, attended USC School of Journalism, and has written extensively about Montecito as a columnist for the Montecito Journal and the News-Press. Brown's long career in journalism includes a stint as a feature writer at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner and Education Editor for the (Texas) Daily Leader, where she received a UPI Texas Editors award for investigative reporting.

Brown is an active community volunteer, serving as the past president of Santa Barbara City College's Adult Education Advisory Committee, former board member of Women's Economic Ventures, Newcomers Club, the Council on Self Esteem, Heal the Ocean (honorary), and Chamber of Commerce Media Committee. Brown has been a docent at the Santa Barbara Zoo and she is graduate of Leadership Santa Barbara. She maintains a professional listing in Who's Who of America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry and is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America.
