I just read in the news that Dublin passed a 33 cent tax on using plastic shopping bags. The result was a 94 percent decrease in the use of plastic bags, and that people are putting their money into reusable cloth bags instead.
I think it's time for retail companies here to take note and take responsibility for the fact that it's their plastic bags which end up choking dolphins and seals to death, and adding to the Texas-sized trash heap swirling in the Pacific Ocean.
Now that I know I have a choice, everywhere I shop, I plan on letting the vendor know that I want them to stop pushing plastic bags and to replace the tabloid and plastic cigarette lighter rack with reusable bags I can buy instead. —James Smallwood

That's a great idea. Also I think we should not be supporting take out restaurants which still use styrofoam. Last year SB talked of banning styro used for take out foods .. I still see places using it . What happened?
