The Santa Barbara CHP office announced today that actress Heather Locklear (Dynasty, Melrose Place) was arrested for driving while under the influence of a controlled substance on Saturday, September 27.
According to a report of the incident submitted to area media by CHP, Locklear was spotted driving forward and backward over a pair of sunglasses in a Montecito parking lot around 5 p.m. A “concerned citizen” saw Locklear do this and then watched her drive away. Shortly thereafter, the same person saw Locklear’s vehicle stopped on East Valley Road and then allegedly saw her stumble out of her car and into the traffic lane. The citizen then called 911.

Santa Barbara CHP officers arrived and began investigating the matter as a possible DUI. According to a report from the responding officer, Locklear, who at this point had returned to her driver’s seat, appeared disoriented. The officers, however, ruled out alcohol as the intoxicating agent. Locklear was then arrested and transported to the Santa Barbara CHP office, where a drug recognition expert concluded that the woman was under the influence of a controlled substance. A chemical test was obtained, the report read, and Locklear was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
According to celebrity gossip sites, Locklear was released Sunday morning on her own recognizance, without having to post bail. Locklear’s representatives have yet to issue a statement. CHP spokesperson Officer Alex Tipolt said he would respond to media inquiries beginning tomorrow morning.

1. this paper is not a rag.
2. this person embarrassed herself, without any help from this paper.

Printing such an article about an actress should have the same weight and priority as articles about their political views---NONE.

True, if it wasn't someone famous and just an ordinary citizen, there would NOT have been an article. However, people are interested and it is a story... she embarrassed herself for sure, just glad that nobody got hurt! Hopefully the publicity and shame it will hopefully bring to her, will help her to not make the same mistake again.

Yes, it's sad...but it's also incredibly dangerous for other citizens to have someone impaired as Locklear was on the road.
We can hope she gets good treatment and is able to live a sober life, and we can also be thankful she was taken off the road before she killed anyone!
Fame or no fame - it happens all the time.

Did I miss something? OR is Heather's BIG boo-boo now more important than the gun fight on lower De la Vina which happened this weekend? I have seen no mention of this important event in the Indy. Migrating from knives to guns - WOW...take note Santa Barbara..you could end up on the wrong side of a stray bullet.

Or on the wrong side of an intoxicated driver's vehicle. Both stories are newsworthy and scary - unfortunately, both are probably just the tip of the iceberg. Our social strucures seem to be ripping apart at the seams as people are under increasing stress, and it is becoming more and more difficult to handle the craziness that is our world today.

Here's my 2 cents' worth: A few years ago I was given a sedative at an emergency room and told NOT to drive home by the doctor. I got a ride home. I remember not feeling impaired in any way, in fact I remember that day very clearly, including having a telephone conversation with a friend of mine and going shopping.
The next day, I spoke with that same friend who told me "You really sounded out of it yesterday" (or words to that effect). The point is, I can speak from first-hand experience that there is no way anyone can judge their own sobriety. Needless to say, I'm glad I got that ride home.
Moral of story: Drive sober.

Drive sober and do the right thing, like the woman witness did, and call 911. Not only was Heather's behavior a danger to others, it sounds like she could have gotten hurt as well.
There was a shooting but it doesn't sound like it was a "gun fight." It IS scary, guns haven't come into play very much here and that is a huge fear with the increase in gang activity. Makes me want to move to the mountains where the only guns you hear about are for hunting & protection from wild grizzly bears... ahh that sounds so nice!
