Graduation season has come upon Santa Barbara. From June 7 through June 14, approximately 4,500 UCSB students will take part in one of eight commencement ceremonies that attract an estimated 40,000 visitors to the city each year.
The first ceremony begins on Sunday, June 7, at 11 a.m. in Campbell Hall for the College of Creative Studies. On Friday, June 12, at 10 a.m., the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management ceremony will be held in the Bren Hall Courtyard.
The following weekend - Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 - three ceremonies per day take place on the Commencement Green behind the Faculty Club by the lagoon.
This year’s commencement speakers include President and Chief Operating Officer of Warner Bros. Alan F. Horn, journalist Paul Roberts, UCSB’s Professor of Global Studies Mark Juergensmeyer, and Professor of International Political Economy Benjamin Cohen.
Ceremonies are organized by college, level of degree, and field of study. It is tradition that during the commencement portion, Chancellor Yang shakes each student’s hand.

Darn it! I was hoping it was 45,000. At $1,000/degree, UCSB could solve its budget problem.
