Two entrances and massive glass windows house the newest outpost of Jeannine's American Bakery & Restaurant (jeannines.com), this one downtown in La Arcada Court. Formerly Finestra Caffe, the already crowded spot has retained a lot of the previous establishment's interior décor, such as the ceiling-high, white-netted drapes and the central ordering counter. A welcome addition is a second ordering counter, which is an express line for freshly brewed Peet's Coffee, espresso drinks, beverages, and grab-and-go items. Patio dining spills out of the entrance that opens onto the tiled walkway of La Arcada right next to a softly flowing fountain. Barstool seating looks out to Figueroa Street and marble tabletops are draped under white linen tablecloths within the clean and bustling interior. Enjoy the same popular fluffy pancakes, freshly baked scones, organic egg scrambles, Cobb salad, and turkey berry sandwich that are served at Jeannine's other two sit-down locations (3607 State St. in San Roque and 1253 Coast Village Rd. in Montecito) in a spacious, quaint, and convenient spot.

Who owns Jeannine's?

Thanks goodness that a quality establishment has taken Finestra's place! Finestra was owned and operated by Calvary Chapel, a leading source of hate-mongering here in our beautiful city. Finestra was just one example of Calvary Chapel's attempts to "take back Santa Barbara" from "sinners". It was doomed to fail. Thankfully, Jeanine's is here to fill the void and provide Santa Barbarans with quality food in a pleasant atmoshere...period, no agenda, just good eats!
