Nyuol Tong, 17, a student at Los Olivos’s Dunn School, celebrated on 9/27 the launch of the Sudan Education for Liberty Foundation (SELF), a nonprofit that aims to provide learning resources for the much-travailed citizens of Sudan. Himself a native Sudanese who fled a rebel insurgency at age 12 and whose American education was funded by American Amnesty Club students when he was 15, Tong claims that education is key to his homeland’s chances of becoming self-sustainable. CORRECTION: A woman named Brooke Comer is sponsoring Tong's education in America.
