Santa Barbara philanthropist Sara Miller McCune announced the launch March 20 of a magazine and website that she claimed begins with a circulation of more than 100,000 readers in the US and Canada. The magazine, called Miller-McCune, will focus on “significant research and researchers, explaining what they offer in practical options for dealing with pressing social problems, here in the US and around the world,” McCune said.

Michael Todd, former business editor for the Santa Barbara News-Press, will serve as online editor for Miller-McCune.com. John Mecklin, former editor of High Country News, a magazine about the politics and environment of the American West, has been hired to serve as editor-in-chief for the print edition.

The first issue includes articles by Princeton researcher Doug Massey, on Mexican immigration and trade; former Congressmember Mickey Edwards on terrorism; and tax attorney/media watchdog Marty Lobel on corporate tax loopholes that exposure could help plug—if the media understood them.

The new magazine and website will be published under the auspices of the nonprofit Miller-McCune Center for Research, Media and Public Policy; with support from SAGE, a nonprofit public benefit foundation founded in 1965 by McCune and her late husband, George. McCune chairs SAGE Publications, which specializes in academic journals, references, and trade journals.
