Vandenberg Air Force Base announced yesterday that the first Atlas V rocket launch of the year will be delayed in order to avoid falling debris from the National Reconnaissance Office experimental satellite, which was shot down Wednesday, February 20. Originally, the Atlas V rocket was scheduled to embark on February 29 from the Space Launch Complex-3. A new revised date will be established and posted.

I thought the whole reason for shooting the thing out of the sky was to keep falling debris from crashing into the earth and other satellites?
Why then is Vandenberg saying they cant launch yet ?
Seems odd.
