What Santa Barbaran Pam Plesons is trying to do is summed up in this claim by Steven Hopp in his book Oily Food: “If every U.S. citizen ate just one meal a week comprised of locally and organically raised meats and produce we would reduce our country’s fuel consumption by 1.1 million barrels of oil every week (not gallons, but barrels!).” To help us do just that, Plesons has started Plow to Porch Organics, a service that brings the farmers market right to your front door every week. If you sign up for P to P, you’ll get the freshest, most in-season produce from the best providers (like Tom Shepherd and Tutti Frutti) delivered to your home. She even has a range of size options to fit everyone’s need. Not only will you eat mighty well, but, as the Web site reads, you’ll “help support biodiversity, clean air, and a sense of social responsibility and stewardship of land.”

To eat with a clear conscience, contact Plow to Porch Organics at 705-4786, and visit plowtoporchorganics.blogspot.com.

A similar service is provided by sprout-about. They were first in the area with this concept, and I think they share many of the same produce providers. Sprout-about only delivers to workplaces and neighborhoods (Plow to Porch delivers to your doorstep), but you can pick and choose what you want (I don't think Plow to Porch gives you this option).
