Usually, Your Worship covers one house of worship or one event at a time. There are so many fascinating spiritual events going on at once, however, that this week we’re taking a quick look at all of them.

“What Makes You Not a Buddhist”

Sponsored by the Vairotsana Foundation, speaker Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche will be lecturing at the Unity Church Sanctuary, located at 227 E. Arrellaga St., on Saturday, August 16 at 7:30 pm. His lecture, “What Makes You Not a Buddhist,” will focus on the same theme explored by his book of the same name: the relevance of Buddhist philosophy to everyday life in the Western world. Tickets, which are $25, can be purchased either at the door or in advance online, through Paypal sent to publictalk2008@gmail.com.

Mindfulness Meditation

An ongoing event with two different levels of instruction offered, La Casa de Maria’s Mindfulness Meditation classes are open to beginners and experts alike. All classes, which are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 pm from August 19-28, are taught by Radhule Weininger, who is associated with the SpiritRock Buddhist Center in Woodacre, California. La Casa de Maria is located at 800 El Bosque Rd. For more information on these classes visit lacasademaria.org.

Swami Vidyadhishananda at the Victoria Hall

For the last of his Santa Barbara appearances this summer, Swami Vidyadhishananda of Carpinteria’s Self Enquiry Life Fellowship will be speaking at the Victoria Hall Theater, located at 33 W. Victoria St. The lecture will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 6 pm. That same day, the Self Enquiry Life Fellowship will be holding a celebration of the birth of Krishna, with a candlelit ceremony concluding at midnight. For more information on either of these events, call 909-542-6003 or email quest@swamihiman.org .

Chris Spheeris at SolDance

For any Santa Barbarans interested in taking a jaunt over San Marcos Pass, Chris Spheeris will be performing music and leading a meditation at SolDance at 485 Alisal Rd. in Solvang on Sunday, August 24 at 5 pm. The event is called “Surrendering to the Mystery,” and involves elements of art and spirituality. More information is available by calling SolDance at 686-9642.
