Executive Order S09-08 — which on 8/1 called for state employees to be paid minimum wage until a new state budget is adopted and which also eliminated 22,000 non-full-time state employees — 195 Santa Barbara County residents are facing diminished paychecks. Assemblymember Pedro Nava, who is also chair of the Assembly Banking & Finance Committee, called Schwarzenegger’s move “wrongheaded.” The move will not, however, affect wages for employees of the University of California, including UCSB. Third District Supervisor candidate Doreen Farr has pulled in more money than fellow candidate Steve Pappas, according to campaign contribution statements. Farr, who has raised $373,810 and currently has $18,105, counts the Service Employees International Union and the Government Committee of Santa Barbara County among her largest supporters. Pappas has raised $75,150 and has $680 on hand, with Anne V. Crawford-Hall Enterprises and veterinarian Doug Herthel among his most generous contributors. (/3rddistrictcash)

State Assemblymember Pedro Nava raised just over $165,000 as of the 7/1 deadline for reporting campaign contributions. His Republican rival, Greg Gandrud — a former Carpinteria councilmember and the head of the Republican Central Committee — had raised only $1,767. Should Nava be reelected, he cannot run again under the state’s term-limits law. (/navagandrud)

Republican candidate Tony Strickland has raised $1.1 million in his race against Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson for the 19th Senate District, which stretches from Lompoc to Santa Clarita. Jackson has raised $350,000. The Republican Party has declared the retention of the 19th District seat, long occupied by conservative Tom McClintock, the utmost priority and poured $665,000 into Strickland’s campaign. Democrats have been less urgently forthcoming, but Jackson picked up donations from actors Ted Danson, Malcolm McDowell, and TV producer Steve Bochco. (/stricklandjackson)

In the run-off election for Superior Court judge, John McKinnon has raised and spent more than rival Jed Beebe. McKinnon — the top vote-getter in the June primary — reported raising $64,000 by the 7/1 deadline and spending $67,000. Thus far, his biggest contributor is his mother, Evelyn McKinnon, who loaned her son’s campaign $52,000. Beebe, who enjoys support from many area judges, reported raising $21,000 and spending $16,000. Beebe loaned his campaign nearly $6,000. (/mckinnonbeebe)
