The Hoagland Conspiracy, starring singer/songwriter Ted Hoagland, performs all over town: at SOhO, The Creekside Inn, Legends Lounge, and more, including shows tonight — April 6 — at Alcazar on the Mesa; Saturday, April 8, at Isla Vista’s Earth Day Festival in Anisq’oyo Park; and on May 12 at Cold Spring Tavern. I asked the ubiquitous Hoagland about this whirlwind of musical activity and he responded with typical good humor.

You’re playing everywhere in Santa Barbara, performing songs from your new album. So, what’s next? It’s great that people are responding to the album and our shows. I’m going to keep writing songs and singing them. That’s the extent of my business plan so far. Sure, one day I hope to sing for the pope, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself.

Your lyrics show a talent for storytelling. In 10 words or less, how would you describe the characters in your songs? Well-meaning but scrappy loners with a screw loose, mostly.

The listeners of The Hoagland Conspiracy want to know, what’s the conspiracy? I could tell you, but you’d have to kill me. There are clues on the CD, however.
